We conclude our departed Washington Capitals portion of the end of season report cards by looking back at Marcus Johansson before he was traded to the Minnesota Wild.

MoJo as the fans call him or JoJo as his teammates call him played in 60 games for the Capitals prior to the trade. He had 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points after the team re signed him to a one year extension last summer after acquiring him from last year’s trade deadline.

With the Wild he finished the regular season with six goals and 12 assists for 18 points bringing his combined total up to 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points. A good season for the 32 year old Swedish forward.

Johansso’s 19 goals was 10 more than he had the previous season. His advanced stats with the Capitals were decent. His Corsi For percentage was 52.25 percent, his Expected Goals For percentage at 53.07 percent and his High Danger Chances For percentage at 51.34 percent, via Natural Stat Trick.

Now he’s on the Wild looking to win his first Stanley Cup. In the first round series against the Dallas Stars he has two goals in three games. That includes two goals in his last two games actually. His first came in a loss at Dallas on April 19.

The one he had last night at home was a highlight reel worthy one. Check this out.

While the shot itself looks ordinary it’s the cooking with the stick and the puck around the defender that makes this goal tuff as the kids say. Hopefully they can come out of the west but it’ll be tricky.

Grade A-: MoJo did even better this season with the Capitals than he did last season and we wish him the best with Minnesota as he chases his first Cup.
