Next up on our Washington Capitals player report cards is a player they need to re sign next: Martin Fehervary. He’s a restricted free agent and after getting a deal done with Alex Alexeyev he’s next on the agenda.

This season Fehervary had six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 67 games. That’s two goals less than the previous season but one more assist adding up to one less point. But still pretty good. Of course he missed time due to injury mid season. And he was missed.

Fehervary’s Corsi For percentage came out to 46.66 percent, his Scoring Chances For came out to 46.83 percent, and a 46.96 percent High Danger Chances For, via Natural Stat Trick. So yeah 46 percent basically in advanced stats.

Fehervary declined a chance to play for Team Slovakia in the IIHF World Championship. Instead he’s focused on his offseason training and getting that big pay day.

Fehervary made $791,967 this past season. He’ll be due a raise. His buddy Alexeyev had a cap hit of $863,333. He will make $775,000 next season and $875,000 the season after. Expect another two year bridge deal coming the way for Marty.

“I always try to focus on my game or try to be as best as I can. Trying to perform really good all the time… Obviously we are going to have a long summer so I’m going to try to take care of my body and make sure I’m really prepared for (next season),” Fehervary told reporters on breakdown day.

Grade A: Marty gets an A for overcoming the injury. The kid who’s just 23 has a chance to be the face of a youth infusion for the Capitals and any new kids that come through Kettler (sorry I still call it that) will certainly look up to Fehervary. Hopefully he can stay healthy and have a breakout year next season. But for now, the Caps need to pay the man.
