Next up on our Washington Capitals player report cards is Conor Sheary who probably played his final game in a Caps sweater. It’s doubtful the team will re sign him. It might be too expensive.

Sheary got off to a hot start in the beginning and cooled off from midseason to the end. First let’s look at the final numbers.

Sheary played in all 82 games and had 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points. That’s four goals less than the previous season where he appeared in 71 games.

Now here were his numbers at the start of the season. He had four goals in seven games. And props to him for not getting hurt. Then he went on an eight game goal less drought. After that he had three goals in four games in November.

Sheary spoke on his hot start earlier in the season:

“It’s something, I feel like as I’ve gotten older in the league and more experienced I think I’ve morphed into that role. I came in and I didn’t plan on that, but certain coaches gave me the opportunity to be in that position and move up and down the lineup and…I take pride in that.”

Then he cooled off again. A five game goal less drought followed then a two game goal streak. Then another five game no goals. After a goal against the New York Rangers. Then 12 games without a goal.

Then came 21 consecutive games without a goal. Then he had three in four games before no goals in the final six games. IT all adds up to an inconsistent season.

At five on five he had a Corsi For percentage of 47.64 percent, an Expected Goals For percentage of 49.87 percent, and a High Danger Chances For percentage of 50.79 percent, via Natural Stat Trick.

Grade D+: It was a bad and inconsistent year for Sheary and he will likely get a fresh start somewhere.
