Last up on our Washington Capitals end of season player report cards is Nicolas Aube Kubel who was acquired off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 5.

In 47 games with the Caps, NAK recorded four goals and eight assists for 12 points. He had a plus minus rating of plus two while averaging 11:39 minutes of ice time. He started to heat up from January to March. He had goals in back to back nights in January at the Columbus Blue Jackets in a win and the next night in a loss on home ice to the Nashville Predators.

He then scored in a March 4 win at the San Jose Sharks then in a loss in the Disney Channel game to the New York Rangers.

Among forwards, NAK led the Caps with a 53.57 percent Corsi For percentage, as well as a solid 52.91 percent Expected Goals For percentage, and a 53.23 percent High Danger Chances For percentage, via Natural Stat Trick.

The Caps re upped the 27 year old forward, who just turned that age six days ago, back in March to a one year extension. He will make $1.225 million next season. He has been spotted recently attending Hershey Bears Calder Cup playoff games.

This contract extension is a prove it deal for NAK. If he can break out in the bottom six and be an X factor they’ll definitely want to give him a raise. It’s basically his job to lose. This deal came after the Nick Jensen three year extension.

Back to Aube Kubel attending Bears games. He’s not the only one as Alex Alexeyev has been spotted as well. He was there to support his teammates that could be helping contribute to the Caps next season. What a team player.

Grade B-: Not bad for a first season. He should definitely be one of those prime candidates to break out with a full season under his belt coming up.
