Making the case to trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois

The Washington Capitals should 100 percent trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois of the Winnipeg Jets. The left winger had 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points in the regular season and two goals and two assists for four points in five games in their first round loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Caps could potentially include Evgeny Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha in the package and that could work.

Some people think the Caps should include Tom Wilson in a trade package but not so fast. The Caps aren’t quite rebuilding just retooling on the fly and it would be a mistake to trade Wilson.

Now don’t get me wrong, trading Tom Wilson would bring in a good haul but I don’t think that’s the answer.

Pierre-Luc Dubois is a restricted free agent and he’d be free to talk to the Caps if he doesn’t receive a qualifying offer. But even if he does the Caps. He has a cap hit of $6 million so obviously somewhere between $7-8 million would make sense.

In the regular season this year, Dubois had a Corsi For percentage of 51.97 percent, an Expected Goals For percentage at 52.01 percent, and a 55.16 percent High Danger Chances For percentage, via Natural Stat Trick.

I could see Pierre-Luc Dubois on the second or third line plus he he’ll be just turning 25 by the time the team will probably reach out and try to trade for him if GMBM decides to go that route.

Now if the Caps don’t trade for him they could sign him at free agency easily. He was taken third overall in the 2016 NHL Draft and has good speed and hockey IQ.

Must Read. It’s time to trade Evgeny Kuznetsov. light

Another good sign he could come here is that he hasn’t really said much about his future in Winnipeg so it looks like he could be open to other options. The Caps could be the perfect match.
