The Washington Capitals will look much different next season and it all starts behind the bench. Here’s a look at who’s in and who’s out.

This list will update throughout the offseason as the Caps make more moves.

Firings

Head Coach: Peter Laviolette

After missing the playoffs the team had to part ways with Laviolette after his contract was up and no progress was made among the team. He is replaced by Spencer Carbery.

Update: Peter Laviolette now coaches the New York Rangers.

Assistant Coach: Kevin McCarthy

McCarthy has always been Laviolette’s right hand man and he leaves right along with him. It is likely the team is looking for two assistant coaches and one to really specialize on the power play.

Assistant Coach: Blaine Forsythe

Still looking for that new power play mastermind as Forsythe’s power plays failed the last two seasons. Though Carbery helped with the Toronto Maple Leafs power play and will very likely still have a say in it.

Current staff/replacements

Head Coach: Spencer Carbery

Carbery was named the 20th head coach in Capitals franchise history on May 30. He returns to the Capitals organization after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was responsible for the team’s power play and also oversaw the team’s forwards.

Assistant Coach: Scott Allen

Allen joined the Caps after spending the previous three seasons with the Hershey Bears. He served as an assistant coach with the Bears for two seasons before being named Hershey’s head coach ahead of the 2021 22 season.

Goaltending Coach: Scott Murray

Murray enters his sixth season as the Caps goaltending coach.

Video Assistant Coach: Brett Leonhardt

Video Coordinator: Emily Engel Natzke

6/22 update: The Caps found another assistant coach to add to Spencer Carbery’s staff. Now there’s only one more that remains. Meet the new guy below:
