Capitals sign Alex Limoges
The Washington Capitals have signed forward Alex Limoges to a one year, two way contract ($775,000/$235,000) who’s no stranger to the DMV having grown up as a native of Winchester, Virginia.
He recorded 54 points in 63 games with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL last season with 20 goals and 34 assists. The six foot, 207 pound forward set AHL career highs in assists and points in 2022 23 while leading Manitoba in scoring.
Limoges registered just 12 penalty minutes last season, tied for the second fewest among AHL skaters with 54 or more points. In 148 career AHL games with Manitoba and the San Diego Tulles, Limoges has recorded 115 points with 54 goals and 61 assists. He’s also registered four points with two goals and two assists in 10 career Calder Cup Playoff games.
The 25 year old played collegiately at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) for four years, serving as team captain during his senior season in 2020 21. He recorded 22 points with 10 goals and 12 assists in his final season at Penn State and was named an All Big Ten Honorable Mention and a finalist for the Senior CLASS award presented annually to an individual who excels on the field, in the community, and in the classroom while having strong leadership qualities.
During the 2018 19 season, Limoges tied for first in the NCAA in scoring with 50 points in 39 games with 23 goals and 27 assists. He finished his college career with nearly a point per game rate (0.98), recording 125 points in 128 games with 51 goals and 74 assists.
Limoges is an alumni of the Washington Little Caps program, playing for the 16U AAA, 14U AAA, and 13U AAA teams.
It’s cool seeing the Caps sign another local former Little Caps player. He joins Joe Snively, who’s a native of Herndon, as another Northern Virginia native in the Capitals organization. Maybe Limoges will get called up at some point this upcoming season.
