#1 Jonathan Toews

Jonathan Toews is a center so if Nicklas Backstrom decides to call it a career? Cool, he’s in center. If Backstrom stays around, would he consider moving to wing?

Maybe he can benefit from that.

He was a longtime key contributor on a Chicago Blackhawks dynasty that won three Stanley Cups and he also won multiple gold medals with Team Canada at the Olympics.

The downside of course is his age as like Ovechkin he is in the backhand of his career. He’s 35.

The salary cap will increase next year which makes this a slim possibility. He won’t be worth $10.5 million but he’ll be somewhere between that and $2 million.

Toews scored 15 goals and added 16 assists for 31 points. Those are the guys who I think the Caps should go for in free agency. But let’s see if they make a trade first.
