Clayton Keller is easily worth pursuing

Another day, more work to be done for Washington Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan. If there’s a player worth shopping for they should look no further than left winger Clayton Keller of the dumpster fire Arizona Coyotes.

He was selected seventh overall in the 2016 NHL Draft and plays the same position as Anthony Mantha. But the age difference is staggering. Mantha is 28 years old. Keller is 24 and about to turn 25 on July 29.

This could be a deal that works if Evgeny Kuznetsov is thrown into the package as well. The Caps would get in return a 37 goal scorer which is miles ahead of Mantha. What makes it tricky is it’s all up to Keller.

The Coyotes latest debacle off the ice involved Alex Galchenyuk. After signing a one year, $775,000 contract when free agency opened up, he celebrated with booze in the worst way possible.

Officers found him intoxicated by his car. The former Coyotes player (since they cut him after this happened) uttered racial slurs and threats at cops.

It was just the latest in a series of endless off ice debacles involving the Coyotes so why would Keller want to continue to be a part of that?

A few months ago they tried to get a new arena proposal until taxpayers voted against it. They continue to play at the campus of Arizona State University and there’s talks of someday relocating. But where?

There’s Atlanta who lost a team. That could work. San Diego lost their Chargers. Would they welcome a hockey team? Who says no to California beaches?

Keller has five years left on his contract worth $7.15 AAV. If the Coyotes are tearing it up, then this could work. Or maybe if Kuznetsov doesn’t want to play in Arizona, get a third team involved. Either way Keller is a good target if GMBM can work his magic.
