Injuries don’t just happen to the older guys on the Capitals. It can trickle down to the prospects too as Cameron Allen will undergo shoulder surgery. He is new to the organization as their 136th overall pick in the fifth round of this year’s draft. He plays for the Guelph Storm.

The surgery will take place on August 30. The Storm say that Allen is expected to return to the lineup in the new year. He had 25 points in 62 games last season with five goals and 20 assists.

The Capitals may have missed the playoffs this year but if there’s any silver lining, it’s given the players extra time to heal and get ready for the new season.

Tom Wilson was re-signed to a seven year extension that will kick in after this upcoming season. He spoke to the media on zoom about the hunger and motivation his team now has:

“There’s an excitement coming into this year that is a little bit different than kind of in years past. There’s a new coaching staff, guys are getting healthy. It was kind of a rocky year last year.”

Report: Capitals Had Plans To Play Blues In Russia In International Games

(Sammi Silber/The Hockey News)

The coronavirus pandemic ruined all of our plans including the Capitals and St. Louis Blues plans to play in Russia for an exhibition match before the season. Alex Ovechkin confirmed such reports in a recent interview with Match TV.

This following quote is translated from Russian to English:

“It was supposed to happen. Washington was supposed to play in Moscow with St. Louis. But then the virus came into the world [and] a pandemic [happened] and the topic went on pause.”

This would’ve been cool seeing Ovechkin play against Vladimir Tarasenko as both are huge stars in their homeland. Caps vs. Blues games haven’t been that appealing ever since the Blues tore down their roster.
