We have two defenseman on the Washington Capitals left to predict before we figure out who the sixth one will be. We won’t get that answer until the end of training camp and the preseason. But I imagine we will tackle that topic too. Next up is Trevor van Riemsdyk who thankfully didn’t suffer an injury too severe in the preseason opener.

In the third period of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres, TvR left the game in the third period after taking a slapshot to the hand. Prior to that injury he had a point which was an assist on the game’s second goal which came from Ryan Hofer.

TvR played 18:30 that afternoon, had a plus minus of negative one and ripped off two shots. Not terrible but could’ve been better. But it’s also preseason.

With the defense remaining a question mark with Joel Edmundson’s injury we are figuring out who TvR’s partner is on the third pairing. But not just us. Spencer Carbery is figuring that out too and as the new bench boss it’ll be him making that final call.

Last season he had seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points. He also had a plus minus of plus 10 while averaging 19:04 minutes of ice time. Every single one of those numbers I just showed you are career highs and so is the block total he had which was 160.

I think TvR will have an even stronger year and if anybody else gets hurt ahead of him, he can step in and fill those roles. But after what we all went through a year ago, let’s like not.

I could see him finishing with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points. I also think he has the potential to lead the Caps in blocks. His closest challenger could be Nick Jensen, Martin Fehervary (which we’ll predict later) or Rasmus Sandin.
