Breaking down unofficial official opening night roster
The Washington Capitals along with the other 31 NHL teams had to submit their 23 man roster at 5 p.m. today. Before we unveil this unofficial official roster lets look at the following transactions the team made.
Keep in mind that some of these are just simply paper transactions hence the unofficial official roster. We will know for sure what the roster looks like on Wednesday at 9 a.m. before practice.
They have placed Max Pacioretty on long term injured reserve or LTIR. Then they placed Joel Edmundson on injured reserve or IR for short. Next they loaned Hardy Haman Aktell, Aliaksei Protas, and Connor McMichael to the Hershey Bears. Finally they recalled Riley Sutter from Hershey.
Here is what the 23 man roster looks like (for now), per Cap Friendly:
Forwards: Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov, T.J. Oshie, Anthony Mantha, Tom Wilson, Dylan Strome, Sonny Milano, Nic Dowd, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Riley Sutter, Matthew Phillips, Beck Malenstyn
Defense: John Carlson, Nick Jensen, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Martin Fehervary, Rasmus Sandin, Alex Alexeyev, Lucas Johansen
Goalies: Darcy Kuemper, Charlie Lindgren
Overall the roster consists of 13 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies.
Ivan Miroshnichenko was not at practice today and will very likely head to Hershey to continue his development at the AHL level with the Bears.
Some people on X were freaking out about Connor McMichael but what they didn’t know was that was a paper transaction. He’s not heading to Hershey. He’s still in Arlington at his apartment with his girlfriend.
On Wednesday at 9 a.m. prior to practice we will know what the roster will officially look like. In that regard we’ll really know who’s in the lineup this Friday night when they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Antony Mantha skated at practice today as an extra forward. Nobody went to waivers on the Caps end. Stay tuned for Wednesday morning when we know exactly who is in.
