John Carlson is a sleeper fantasy pick vs Blue Jackets
The Washington Capitals will play the Columbus Blue Jackets in just under three hours. We’ve written two fantasy hockey articles and it’s time to do a third one. We told you to start both Rasmus Sandin and Charlie Lindgren. If you’re looking for another Caps player to add your sleeper pick here is John Carlson.
Carlson started the season hot, and then after a cold spell he has an assist and two shots on net in each of his last two games. The Blue Jackets, as I noted, have a 3.53 GAA. They have also allowed 33.5 shots on net per contest.
Per the game notes, Carlson led the Capitals with 28:35 minutes of ice time on Nov. 14 vs. the Vegas Golden Knights which resulted in a 3-0 Caps win. He ranks first in the NHL in ice time per game with 26:23. His eight assists this season lead the Capitals.
Since the 2017 18 season, Carlson ranks third in the NHL in points among defensemen with 366 and first in points per game with 0.88.
This season, Carlson has one goal and eight assists for nine points. He’s also been on the first power play unit. He along with the rest of both power play units need to step up. The Caps rank second to last in the NHL in power play percentage.
The other night Carlson was on the first pair with Lucas Johansen in their 3-0 win over the Golden Knights. Expect the defense to be a lot different but for good reason. Joel Edmundson could be making his Capitals debut as he’s been activated from LTIR. Trevor van Riemsdyk has been activated from injured reserve.
The game tonight starts at 7:30 p.m. on Monumental Sports Network.
