Start Charlie Lindgren in fantasy tonight
We’re back with another fantasy hockey article. We’re churning out three today for good reason. For Washington Capitals fans that play, you have to start Charlie Lindgren in net. He’s been hot and despite Darcy Kuemper being back on the ice from that injury the other day, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery is going with the hot hand.
Lindgren finally earned a decent amount of games last season, which resulted in a GAA over 3.00 and save percentage below .900. Darcy Kuemper, who’s also in his second year with the Caps, remains the top goalie but has experienced a couple recent injuries. That’s opened the door for Lindgren, and he’s impressed by notching three straight victories — the last one a 35-save shutout against Vegas. As he’s on a nice run and Kuemper’s status is unknown, there will be more potential to shine during the rest of the homestand against weaker defenses in Columbus, Buffalo and Edmonton.
Lindgren is 3-1-0 this season with a 1.76 goals against average and a .947 save percentage. He’s made 124 saves on the season. His one shutout came in Tuesday night’s impressive 3-0 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights where he made 35 saves.
The 29 year old told Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network after Wednesday’s practice:
“For me, it’s like a switch. I feel really locked in. ‘In the zone’, to me, it’s when you’re seeing the puck super well. And it looks like a beach ball right now.”
His advanced stats also back up his normal stats. Per Sportlogiq, he leads the league in goals save above expected at 2.01. Lindgren is also first in “steals” with three which is a term for when a goalie’s saved above expected is greater than the difference of the final score and his team wins. His slot save percentage is at .906 which is the second best among all goalies.
Catch the Capitals tonight against the Blue Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Monumental Sports Network as Lindgren looks to continue his insane momentum.
