Since the Capitals drafted Olie Kolzig in 1989, it seems there has always been a Capitals drafted and developed netminder somewhere in the league. Phillip Grubauer is in Seattle. Vitek Vanacek played in Utah last season. Semyon Varlamov missed the season with the Islanders but is healthy and coming back next season. Logan Thompson received votes of the Vezina Trophy. They have a few goalies in their system that show promise, like Antoine Keller and Chase Clark, but they need to add a youth and skill to their group of goalies. After the first round, the Caps don’t pick again until the fourth round, so unless they can trade up, they will have to do their due diligence and find a diamond in the rough.
