Recently, EA Sports announced that they will be releasing NHL 27 in September, and just like every year, they have selected a new cover athlete for the game. Every player grows up playing their video games, so it is always a cool honour to be selected as the cover athlete, and this year, it was San Jose Sharks' Macklin Celebrini.
While Alex Ovechkin has already been on two different covers of video games over the years, there is no reason EA Sports shouldn't look in the Washington Capitals' direction for a few options as they head towards planning for NHL 28.
Tom Wilson
Often hating, but never imitated, Tom Wilson would be a fun and interesting choice for the cover of NHL 28. The power forward seems to have the personality to help market the video game, and he could be someone that is unexpected, but makes sense after playing for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
EA often selects superstars and dominant athletes that fans adore, but putting someone who doesn't fit that stereotype fully could actually help market their game even more. Wilson is either loved or hated, and there is no in between. Some fans may despise putting him on there, but I think it would be a terrific idea.
