Toronto can clear cap space

The Leafs have to make changes and become a contender again before Auston Matthews gets any older. Trading Nylander would clear $11.5 million off the books for the next for the remaining four years of Nylander’s contract. That will give the front office flexibility to make trades accumulating draft picks and prospects will give them a fresh start, and the Caps could go after Nylander.
