Nylander is a playmaker that has ties to the DMV

William Nylander would immediately boost the Capitals power play, which was the main reason the Capitals were not a playoff team this past year. Nylander would be an upgrade at the center position, which makes one of the team’s centers currently under contract will most likely be included in a trade. Dylan Strome or Connor McMichael would most likely have to be included.

Nylander’s father played for the Capitals twice in the 2000’s and William lived in the area. If Willaim and his family still have a good relationship with the franchise, he may be willing to waive his full no-trade clause in order to come to Washington and play for a team he watched his father play for when William was a boy.

While other players may have more upside due to age and others will cost a lot more to acquire, Nylander seems like the perfect fit. He would be more expensive to acquire than Elias Pettersson but would not cost as much as Jason Robertson.

Nylander may sit right in the sweet spot, where the Capitals can make the upgrade but not give away the farm to get him. With his past connections with the Caps organization, this could happen sooner than later.
