Justin Holl scored his second goal of the season, his second in as many games. If he keeps this pace up, he'll score 79 goals this season. Holl, the 34 year-old veteran defenseman signed with the Caps in July for one year, $900,000. He has stepped into Matt Roy’s spot on the blue line and played well. No one expects him to score in every game. But if Holl continues to play this way while Roy is out, he may make it hard for the Caps to send him back to Hershey.

Holl would have to clear waivers to go back to Hershey and the Caps would lose him for nothing. The former Blues defenseman has a chance to impress the powers that be and make it hard for the Caps to send him back to Hershey in the American Hockey League. When Rasmus Sandin is fully recovered from knee surgery and when Roy comes back, the Caps should be stacked on the backend, with four left-handed and four right-handed defensemen. Other teams would love to have four quality right-shot defensemen on the roster, but there just aren't that any quality righties just laying around. The Caps general manager Chris Patrick has done his due diligence and put together a roster with depth that extends down to the AHL level.
