The Caps finished the game 1- 4 on the powerplay, which ranks them 22nd in the NHL. Their powerplay efficiency is 15.8%. That’s not good. It’s only seven games, I know. It takes time for these things to blossom. Yeah, yeah. But we were told that things were going to be better with the extra man this season. We’re still waiting for the turn around. The Capitals' past struggles on the power play seem to have followed them over from last season.

Sammi Silber at The Hockey News suggests taking Ovi off the power play unit, which is nuts. Carbery isn’t going to do that. Despite being 41 and this being his 22nd season, Ovi is still Ovi. He is and always has been a streaky goal scorer. He still has that shot. Maybe Carbs will take advantage of the budding chemistry between Ovi and rookie center Ilya Protas and have them out on the ice more often on the man advantage. It certainly couldn’t make it worse.
