#4 Bob Crawford, Kelly Miller, and Mike Ridley for Bobby Carpenter and a 1989 second rounder

This was a bizzare trade that came in 1987 and was by far one of the worst deals the team made in the early days of their franchise. The 1989 second rounder turned out to be Jason Prosofsky. The only good player in this deal was Kelly Miller.

Carpenter scored 32 goals in his first two seasons and had 28 in his third season before scoring a career high 53 goals in his fourth season. He had 27 goals in his fifth season before he was traded to the New York Rangers in the middle of his sixth.

Mike Ridley would go on to have a longer career than Bob Crawford who played just 12 games with the Capitals. Ridley scored 41 goals in 1988-89. In 1994-95 he would join the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kelly Miller would have a 24 goal season in 1990-91 and that would be his best season scoring wise. It was a trade that makes you wonder what if things were different had Carpenter not been traded for those Capitals teams back then?
