Nex up on our Washington Capitals player report card series is Alex Alexeyev. He only appeared in eight games as the defense was mostly full. Other than that he spent much time as a healthy scratch.
In those eight games he went scoreless but had a plus/minus of +2 while averaging 9:18 minutes of ice time per game.
He also appeared in 10 playoff games as he had a plus/minus of -2 in the wake of the Martin Fehervary injury.
Alexeyev's advanced stats included a corsi for percentage of 48.75 percent, an expected goals for percentage of 58.13 percent and a high danger chances for percentage of 55.56 percent in the regular season, per Natural Stat Trick.
In the playoffs his corsi for percentage was at 44.61 percent, his expected goals for percentage at 54.01 percent and his high danger chances for percentage at 58.14 percent.
Alexeyev was called into full time action in the playoffs after Martin Fehervary was hurt. Fehervary's knee injury ended the season and hurt the blueline down the stretch.
Fehervary averaged 10:24 minutes of ice time per game in the playoffs. Shortly after the season ended, Alexeyev got in trouble with the law for public intoxication. He got pepper sprayed and even arrested last weekend in Clarendon.
We all make mistakes and hopefully Alexeyev can learn from this. No telling of what actually happened. In additon to eight games with the Caps, Alexeyev had two assists in three games with the Hershey Bears.
Grade F: It was hard to grade Alexeyev given he didn't play much this past season. Though he did what he had to do in the playoffs with Fehervary getting hurt. The 2018 first round pick went scoreless but maybe he'll have a bigger role next season. We shall see.
