It is chills watching Alex Ovechkin play. The way he glides. The way he shoots the puck. And he's dazzled us night after night for the last 20 seasons. But at age 39 the question was could the Great Eight catch the Great One. And it's looking more and more likely so buckle up Washington Capitals fans.

Ovechkin in his last four games had nine points with five goals and four assists. He also had a plus/minus of +7. The Caps went 3-1-0 to remain near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

Here's more Ovi facts courtesey of NHL Public Relations

"Ovechkin scored in all four of his contests, leading or co-leading the NHL in goals (5), points (9) and plus/minus +7 to power the Capitals (8-3-0, 16 points) to a 3-1-0 week. He notched two goals, his 174th career multi-goal performance (2nd in League) history, in a 5-3 triumph over the New York Rangers on Oct. 29. The release also added, that Ovi became the fourth player in NHL history to record consecutive three point outings at age 39 or older, joining Jean Ratelle, Tim Horton and Gordie Howe. Ovechkin would finish the week with one goal in a 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes which made him the first player to register a four game goal streak at age 39 or older since Jaromir Jagr from March 20-25, 2013.

Ovechkin ranks second on the Caps with seven goals and seven assists for 14 points and with 860 goals in his NHL career, he's 35 shy of passing Gretzky for the League record.

The second star was Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes while Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins was the third star of the week. Ovechkin is on pace for 52 goals this season which would not only break the record but shatter it.

And not only is he scoring goals but the Caps are winning games early on. This was going to be a tough stretch to start the season but so far so good and the Ovi express looks to continue that momentum this month.
