Caps didn't have Alex Ovechkin in the last meeting, this time they do

The Capitals dropped a 3-0 decision to the Los Angles Kings on Thursday night at Crypto.com Arena which snapped their five game winning streak. It was only the second time Washington has been shutout this season and the first time in 60 games. The other time was Oct. 26 at the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Washington is 17-4-1 in games following a loss this season. In addition, the Capitals' 3-0 loss to the Kings marked their fourth loss by three or more goals this season, tied with the Dallas Stars for the fewest amount of such losses among all teams.

The Capitals vs. Sharks betting odds on Caesars have the Capitals as 1.5 goal favorites on the road with -250 moneyline odds. The Sharks are he underdog at +205. The over/under is set for 6.5 goals.

The Caps and Sharks last met on Dec. 3 at Capital One Arena where the Caps fell to the Sharks 2-1 in overime. Washington is 7-3-2 in their last 12 games against the Sharks and have won five of their last six games at San Jose with a 5-1-0 record. Back then the Caps without Alex Ovechkin but today the captain is nine goals shy of passing Wayne Gretzky's record for the most NHL goals of all time.

Sharks goalie Alexander Georgiev beat the Caps 2-1 in the last meeting and has allowed 10 goals against Ovechkin in his career.

Ovechkin has scored 33 goals in 50 games this season which is good for 0.66 goals per games played and 11 goals in his last 16 games. Ovechkin entered the season 42 goals shy of passing Gretzky and is on pace to score 43 goals this season. Ovi has scored at least 42 goals in 13 of his 19 NHL seasons.

At 39 years old, Ovechkin ranks seventh in the NHL in goals despite missing 16 games due to injury. Only Leon Draisaitl (age 29), William Nylander (age 28), Mark Schifele (age 31), Kyle Connor (age 28), David Pastrnak (age 28) and Tage Thompson (age 27) have more goals than Ovechkin.

Ovechkin has scored 55 goals in his last 85 games dating back to the 2024 NHL All Star Break, which ranks second among all skaters in that span behind Draisaitl who has 67 in 102 games played. For Ovechkin, those numbers are good for 0.65 goals per games played since riding camels and not taking part in the All Star festivities.

On March 11 against Anaheim, Ovechkin recorded three assists which marked his 18th career three assist game. Ovechkin ranks first on the Capitals in points per game with 1.06. With his goal on March 9 against the Seattle Kraken, Ovi became the 11th player in NHL history to reach the 1,600 point mark and seventh to do so with a single franchise.
