As the first day of free agency continues, the Washington Capitals are also adding to their roster, adding depth as they signed Boone Jenner to a 4-year, $5.75 million AAV deal. Jenner has spent his entire career with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He entered free agency for the first time, and while he stayed in the same division as the Jackets, he is now with a different team.

Boone Jenner played in 67 games for the Jackets in 2025-26, scoring 13 goals and registering 25 assists for 38 points. It is important to acknowledge that Jenner has not played a full season since the 2016-2017 season. But what Jenner brings to the Capitals is not only leadership and experience, but he is also a physical forward, which aligns very well with the way the other Capitals forwards play.

Jenner is also a strong two-way forward and provides reliability in the defensive zone. Boone Jenner also has a strong net-front presence and is not afraid to get in front of the goaltender for a screen, which the Capitals could use nicely. Jenner is also strong on faceoffs, and with his addition, the Capitals have a very strong top-9 forward core that could be considered one of the better in the NHL.
