Breaking down how much ticket prices are to see Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals against NY Islanders

To the suprirse of no one, tickets to see the Washington Capitals take on the New York Islanders at UBS Arena are up there. Let's look at the market and see how much you would need to break the bank if you're in Long Island and want to see potential history as Alex Ovechkin sits one goal away from 895 and first place all-time.

Prices are skyrocketing as Ovechkin could pass Wayne Gretzky once and for all

Scouring the ticket market we checked various outlets. Lets start with Ticketmaster. As of Saturday night as we're writing this tickets start at $332.28 and go up $1,155.96 and counting.

Prices of course naturally went up Friday as Ovi netted goal numbers 893 and 894 to tie him with the Great One's career goals mark. Keep in mind for this exercise when we use prices we find on the market we're mentioning the price before the fees.

As of early Saturday afternoon there were two tickets for Row 2 of Section 120 in the lower level of UBS Arena listed for a whooping $10,078. The cheapest option in the lower bowl was $1,200. One seat in Section 316 Row 1 is listed for $6,106.

The prices over on Vivid Seats are slightly more affordable as the highest ticket price goes for $3,702. That's in Row 16 of Section 102. Tickets in the 300 sections are going for as much as $1,664 and as little as $545.

This contest is expected to draw a good crowd with their hometown Islanders fighting for a playoff spot. Lots of Caps fans are expected to make the trip as well. Wayne Gretzky himself was at Capital One Arena Friday night to see Ovechkin tie the record and will be there at UBS Arena.

The only time you see hockey tickets this expensive are the playoffs or if your team is luckey enough to play in the great outdoors in either the Winter Classic or Stadium Series.
