On Monday Mayor Muriel Bowser along with Monumental Sports and Entertainment announced a public and private partnership to transform Capital One Arena. Washington Capitals team owner Ted Leonsis said in a press release:

The delivery of a brand new arena marks the next significant investment in the revitalization of DowntownD.C., and we will build a best in class experience for fans, a world class destination facility for athletes and continue to serve as a downtown anchor for economic vitality. Our vision for a wholly re imagined sports and entertainment destination will be ambitious, reflective of our community, and designed to 'wow' our most ardent supporters as well as casual fans. We want to capture the magic that comes from providing the most entertaining experience which every guest deserves.

Mayor Bowser added: "We're keeping Washington's teams where they belong - here in the Sports Capital, and we'r edoubling down on having a world class destination and entertinmment district in the center of DC. We know that when our Downtown does well, our city does well. This catalytic investment is an ivestment in our residents and businesses in all eight wards."

The public-private partnership promises to recreate Capital One Arena as a "new destination that will represent and reflect Washington, D.C. as the most important city in the world and serve as a must visit venue for fans regionaly, nationally and globally."

This is amazing and just looking at these designs we could tell that good things were in the works. Now that the Caps along with the Wizards and Mystics remain in D.C. where they belong they can get to work on what really matters and that's bringing the community together. Or like Leonsis said at the Cup parade "the unity in the community".

As you can see the concept is similar to the new NHL/NBA arenas all around the country. Or if you're a college fan it's a similar concept to UVA and JMU's new barns as well as Virginia Tech and Maryland. All the big dawgs in the area got upgrades and now it's finally our turn.

This will open the door forward for future generations of Caps fans to come and the ones who are reading this now will come to reflect on the feeling they got when they came to their first game. There's nothing like live hockey and this will showcase hockey in the Nation's Capital to the entire world.
