On Saturday Feb. 1 in a clash of NHL titans between the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets at Capital One Arena there will be a big thing going on off the ice as the Caps continue to celebrate 50 years. The team will host The Dot Com Caps Night at Capital One Arena celebrating the era of 1997-2005.
The alumni expected to appear include Peter Bondra, Sylvain Cote, Calle Johansson, Joe Juneau, Olie Kolzig and Mark Tindori. During five Era Nights throughout the season, the Capitals are celebrating the five eras of Capitals hockey. Each night features a ceremonial puck drop, a specialty 50th anniversary giveaway, in game content and features, and an in game environment based on the era's colors and them and additional nods to the specific period of Caps hockey history.
The main highlight is the Duo Bobblehead giveaway featuring Peter Bondra and Olie Kolzig that all fans can take home. Fans are also encouraged to stop by section 105 on the main concourse to take photos with life size bobbleheads of Bondra and Kolzig, in additon to the previously revealed life size bobbleheads of alumni Mike Gartner and Rod Langway.
Another highlight includes ice scupltures as the Caps have teamed up with Ice Labs for a series of ice scupltures celebrating The Dot Com Caps era. At 3 p.m., fans are invited to visit A Legacy in ALL CAPS: Etched in Ice at the Galery Place Alleyway. Fans are encouraged to take photos with several ice scupltures and from 4:20-4:40, Bondra and Kolzig will be on hand to take photos with fans by the sculptures.
Per the Caps press release, there will also be some cool retail designs as the Caps partnered with 500 level and the NHLPA to create some exclusive alumni T-shirts to celebrate The Dot Com Caps Era Night. The shirt is available in three designs, each featuring an individual alumnus. Peter Bondra, Olie Kolzig, and Adam Oates are the featured alumni. Limited quanities will be available at the Team Store at Capital One Arena as well as the Team Store at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
The team is also releasing custom plack Screaming Eagle jackets, designed with Jeanius Jackets. The featured alumni in attendance will also take part in a pregame chalk talk with season ticket members prior to the festivies.
If you can't make it out to the game Monumental Spots Network will have you covered with an hour long pregame show at 6 before they drop the puck at 7 p.m. There are still two more era nights coming up on March 7 when the Caps celebrate The Rock the Red Era from 2005-14 and April 4 for the ALL CAPS and the Stanley Cup era.
One things for sure, these bobbleheads will be a great add to any Caps fans collection especially those who were fortunate enough to grow up watching Bondra and Kolzig.
