We are a couple of weeks away from the NHL taking a break for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The league is sending players to represent their countries. One player who deserves to go after being left off the 4 Nations roster for Team Canada is Washington Capitals goalie Logan Thompson.

Last year, when it came to the 4 Nations roster and Thompson being omitted, it was widely thought that Vegas Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy had a hand in it. The fiery Cassidy spoke about that and looked to set the record straight when it comes to Thompson and him joining Team Canada for the Olympics next month.

Bruce Cassidy supports Logan Thompson being on Team Canada roster

Despite the Capitals sitting on the outside looking in currently for an Eastern Conference wild-card spot, Thompson has had a tremendous season to date. So far, he is 18-15-4 with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. He has two shutouts. Cassidy is excited that Thompson is headed to the Olympics and supports the decision.

"If he's the guy who gets us a gold medal, I'll drive him to the rink every day,'' said Cassidy. "I'll do whatever. I don’t care who the goalie is. I’m there to win a gold medal."

Now, whether or not Thompson sees any time for Team Canada remains to be seen. However, you can't deny that he has earned some time, given the way the other two goalies on the team, Jordan Binnington and Darcy Kuemper, have played this season. Thompson has had a better season than both of them.

Kuemper is 13-9-9 for the Los Angeles Kings with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. Binnington is just 8-14-6 with a 3.57 GAA and an .868 SV% for the St. Louis Blues. The decision as to who plays more will come down to Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning and their goalie coach David Alexander of the Blues, according to Cassidy.

Whatever happens over the next couple of weeks of play in the Olympics for Team Canada, one thing is for sure: Logan Thompson deserves some playing time, especially if things go south with Binnington or Kuemper early in the tournament.
