Capitals acquire Tyler Kopff from Sabres in exchange for Zac Funk

On Monday (Jul. 13) afternoon, the Washington Capitals announced that they had traded forward Zac Funk to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Tyler Kopff.

Kopff, who is 23 years old, played in the ECHL with the Jacksonville Icemen last season, as well as the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Rochester Americans. In the ECHL, he scored two goals and added four assists for six points through 10 games. In the AHL, he scored one goal and added four assists for five points through 30 games.

Funk, who is 22 years old, also split time between the AHL and ECHL last season. In the ECHL, he scored nine goals and added 10 assists for 19 points through 23 games. In the AHL, he had two assists through 10 games. Funk spent time in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) in the 2020-21 season, which is a Junior B level league, and is now at the professional level.
