Like I pointed out yesterday**, Edmonton and Los Angeles have been denied permission to interview former Capitals head coach and one time coach of the year Bruce Cassidy for their head coaching position. The hockey world went nuts, calling it unfair and petty to keep a fired coach from finding his next job. Then Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon came out yesterday and said:

"Regarding Bruce Cassidy, teams have asked for permission to speak with Bruce. We’ve been consistent that our focus currently is on the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the teams have respected that. I’ve spoken with Bruce, he understands this as well.”"

To which I say… well things I can’t really post what I really want to say. NSFF. What I will say is that if Vegas is doing this to prevent Cassidy going to a division rivals, then i get it. Why help out a division rival when you don’t have to. Since Vegas is still paying Cassidy, he is still under contract. They are playing hardball, yes, and they technically have the right to do so since they are still paying him. If they let him to speak to teams outside the Pacific division, then no harm no foul and I say play on.

Keeping him completely off the market? That just seems wrong to me. The Conference Finals are a big deal, and Vegas should absolutely be focused on the playoffs. But that doesn’t mean Vegas executives can’t send a text with a “yay” or “nay” when a team makes an interview request. It doesn’t take long to answer back with the compensation they want back if someone wants to hire Cassidy as their coach. I think I heard Vegas could really use a second rounder.
