The Washington Capitals had a busy offseason, trying to put themselves back in a position to succeed, where they can make a push for their second Stanley Cup in franchise history, and first since 2018.
When speaking to the media, head coach Spencer Carbery reviewed some of the new additions the Capitals made, detailing some plans for the newcomers who joined during the team's busy offseason.
He referred to Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou as smart players, alluding that they were going to be top-six forwards.
Carbery spoke highly of Kyrou, saying, "A player like [Kyrou], and [Connor McMichael] was similar; I just think Jordan’s a little bit higher level when it comes to a game breaker with the puck, an ability to break you down with his skating, with his speed, with his puck skills. He is extremely, extremely dynamic.”
In terms of Tuch, Carbery said, "I think he’s a great example of our whole forward group. He’s got all the tools. He’s got his speed, size, physicality, plays power play, penalty kill. He’s an every-situation guy for us."
The Capitals also signed Boone Jenner, who Carbery said is a "true pro in every sense of the word." He continued, saying, "[Jenner is] a great guy that drives our group from a competitiveness standpoint, physicality, doing everything he can to help the team."
His words indicate Jenner will be someone they trust in a lot of different situations, including power play, penalty kill, and at even strength.
Carbery spoke about the defensive depth a bit as well, stating, "The addition of Desharnais, Liljegren coming back, Dylan McIlrath, Justin Holl, all we feel really, really good about."
He spoke highly of Vincent Desharnais, stating, "We know exactly what he is and his identity as an NHL defenseman. I think he has a great understanding of that. I think it’s going to make it a perfect fit."
Carbery made it clear he is excited for the 2026-27 season following the new additions the team made, and he seems confident in the Capitals to make a deep playoff run in what could be Alex Ovechkin's final season.
