The Capitals continue to add to their already talented draft class, selecting Jackson Crowder with the 155th overall pick. The Texas native has spent his entire career as a forward and has been a decent player in the USHL. In 60 games with the Sioux City Musketeers and the Chicago Steel, he has registered 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points. He's also a graduate of the Dallas Stars Elite AAA team, which is a common theme among this year's draft class.

Crowder is credited as a gritty player. Someone who uses physicality to his advantage in order to force turnovers and get the puck out to his teammates. He is also not afraid to get into a fight if necessary. While his style of play is that of a checking forward, he is also impressive with his stick. He has a way of shooting the puck from different angles that catches the other team off balance.
However, as is the case with many physical forwards, his skating leaves a lot to be desired. Many scouts say it is the main area of concern. It's also something that could hinder him from making the league. Although physicality is making a resurgence in the league, it's not the end-all be-all. Although teams want their forwards to have some grit and be able to defend themselves, they do not want it at the expense of other positions. If his skating is as bad as scouts say, it could be what keeps him out of the NHL.
Crowder is set to start next season at the University of Ohio State. This could do wonders for his development, as the Big 10 is one of the best conferences for hockey in the NCAA. He could experience what it's like to play high-paced, high-pressure hockey. Crowder projects as a depth forward who could crack the fourth line, if the Capitals need to send a message.
