The 2026-27 NHL season is less than two months away and there are a number of Capitals who are approaching career milestones, and I don’t just mean Alexander Ovechkin. There are a number of other players that have the chance reach milestones of their own, including center Pierre-Luc Dubois. With the help of the talented forwards who could play on his line, and at 28 and playing in his prime, Dubois has a chance to set some career highs while he chases the record books.
Dubois missed 53 games last season after requiring abdominal surgery. Now, fully healht and ready for training camp, Dubois is 73 games away from playing in his 700th NHL game and needs 73 points to reach 500 career points. He would have to play at almost a point -per-game pace and surpass his career high 66 points set in 2024-25 to reach 500 points on the same day he reaches 700 games. Dubois would have to have his best season point wise, but it is certainly not impossible.
Dubois is also 43 assists away from reaching 300 career assists. His career high is 46 assists, again set in 2024-25. If Dubois nets 30 goals this season, he will reach 200 career goals. The most goals he scored in a season was 28 back in 2021-22 with Winnipeg. So, while 30 goals this season is realistic, it may be difficult to reach this year. Dubois needs 73 games and 73 points to hit two pretty impressive milestones, but he would have a career year to reach them on the same night.
Dubois prides himself on his defensive game and head coach Spencer Carbery usually sends out the Dubois line to matchup against opposing teams’ top lines. It’s that defensive play that neutralizes opposing teams’ top lines and tips the ice toward the Caps offensive zone, leading to more scoring chances for Dubois and his line-mates, the reward for playing stifling defense. The best offensive is a great defense and with the additions of Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou—as well Caps regulars like Tom Wilson, Aliaksei Protas, and Ryan Leonard—Dubois could have a monster season, setting up a potential magical night in March.
Dubois could pot his 30th goal and dish out his 43rd assist to reach the 73 point mark on March 21, 2027, on the road against the Rangers. That means Dubois could reach 200 goals, 300 assists, and 500 points while playing in his 700th career game in Madison Square Garden. Sports highlight shows, mark the calendar!
While a lot of things would have to go right for Dubois to make this a reality, Dubois probably won’t hit all of those in one game. He is more likely to play in his 700th game and reach 300 assists this coming season while the goal mark might have to wait until next season. With the NHL playing an 84 game season for the first time since 1993-94, Dubois will have two extra games to reach 73 points and 30 goals this year. It could happen.
Pierre-Luc Dubois is fully healed from last season’s surgery and is in the prime of his career. With the offseason additions and talented players already on the roster, Dubois has a chance to reach a lot—if not all—of these milestones by season’s end. First up is 200 even strength assists, just the first of many achievements Dubois could pass in what could be a milestone year.
