The Washington Capitals continuing quietly adding to their roster for the 2025-2026 season, this time adding Sheldon Rempal from the Vegas Golden Knights.

The contract is worth $775k in the NHL and $450k in the AHL.

Rempal, 29, spend last season playing in the KHL where he recorded 61 points for Salavat Yulaev Ufa. He finished the season second on the squad in goals and points while also finishing top five in assists. He helped lead the team to the Gagarin Cup Semifinals with 21 postseason points.

The Calgary native played two seasons in the Vegas organization between the Knights and the Henderson Silver Knights. In 2023-2024, he scored a team best 27 goals and finished top 10 in the AHL for power-play goals with 11. He made nine NHL appearances with Vegas in 2023-24, registering a pair of goals.

For his career, the 2019 AHL All-Star has 108 goals and 144 assists in 328 AHL games between four teams: Henderson, Chicago, Ontario, and Abbotsford. The young talent does have experience in the District, as he previously attended Capitals Development Camp in 2017.

Rempal will add depth at the forward position for the Caps, which has worked hard to get younger with the recent departures of TJ Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom as well as the rising age of Alex Ovechkin and others.

He will add a veteran presence to the Hershey Bears locker room and will also be a call-up candidate if the Caps need an extra player due to injuries or what not.

All in all, I think this is a smart move by the Caps that has a virtually no risk and a high reward if he deems to be a good fit and they can look to sign him to a longer deal next offseason.

However, many other high profile names, including Jack Roslovic of the Carolina Hurricanes, remain available. Read about him and what he could bring here:
