MacDonald, who is 33 years old, recorded four goals and added eight assists for 12 points in 17 games with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL last season.
MacDonald has 135 games of NHL experience under his belt, having scored 10 goals and added 17 assists for 27 points in that time, which comes out to a 0.20 points-per-game average.
He joins the Capitals' organization as depth in the system in the case of injuries, but will likely be given a real shot to make their NHL team heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
