Capitals sweep the Flyers back to back
In 24 hours the Washington Capitals swept the Philadelphia Flyers in the home and home set
The Washington Capitals defeated the Philadelphia Flyers for the second night in a row this time in DC in a 6-3 rout. Taylor Raddysh got the party started with his second goal of the season a 4:50. Dylan McIlrath and Rasmus Sandin assisted there.
In the second period at 2:49 Nic Dowd scored with his second goal of the season at 2:49 with assists coming from Sandin and Aliaksei Protas. Then Connor McMichael got in on the act at 4:04 with the helpers coming from Pierre-Luc Dubois and Dylan McIlrath.
McMichael scored once again just over three minutes laer at 7:16. The Flyers would storm right back with a power play goal from Travis Konecny at 12:04. Owen Tippett then sruck at 16:16. In the final period Matvei Michkov scored on the power play before the Caps put it away with two empty net goals.
First it was Pierre-Luc Dubois first goal as a Capital then Dylan Strome fed Alex Ovechkin for his second of the season. Ovechkin is now 39 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's record of 894. Capitals coach Spencer Carbery talked about the win and the Caps red hot streak to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post:
You've got to give our guys a lot of credit to be able to dig in there in the third period. ...There was a lot of, call them dicey situations there protecting that lead, but we dug in and did enough to get two points against a team that was pretty desperate tonight.
Logan Thompson did good as he secured 20 saves and now here we are a five game winning streak for the Caps. Taylor Raddysh talked about Thompson's performance to Johnson
He had some really big saves. Obviously there's some that could've found the back of the net, but he was there to make the big save. He's been doing that quite well. We've just got to keep trying to defend better in front of him and try to limit those chances.
This hot start was vital. It gives us a good reading of who this Capitals team is. And now they'll look to continue the momentum this Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
