While the Caps have had a good season they'll be looking to correct some woes as they've gone 1-4-1 in their last six away games. These two games coming up, first the New York Islanders then on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins are against two clubs that missed the playoffs.

The Capitals are also 3-6-1 in their last 10 games and are coming off a weekend where they were outscored 11-1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets in a back to back home and home weekend set.

In the Sunday defeat, Ovechkin notched career goal number 896. Now that he bypassed Gretzky he has 900 career markers in his sights. He was given the day off the afternoon before which resulted in a 7-0 defeat to the Blue Jackets in Ohio. In three of the Caps last four regulation dfeats, Ovi has scored the team's only goal.

Before the team left for New York on Monday, they recalled goaltender Clay Stevenson from the Hershey Bears. In the process, Hunter Shepard got loaned back to the AHL. Stevenson is 18-8-4 in 33 games with Hershey this season with two shutouts, a 2.94 goals against averageand an .888 save percentage. He was signed as a free agent on March 28, 2022.

Over the last 10 games the Caps have been outscored 45-25. Of those 45 given up, 34 have come at five on five, which is the most given up by any team in the NHL in that stretch.

Overall this season the Caps are 15th in the NHL in five on five goals allowed and the 34 they've given up in their past 10 games is 22 percent of their total on the season. Also in the last 10 games, the Caps have only scored 14 five on five goals.

These are all woes the Caps hope to fix over the next two games which will be a good opportunity before things really begin to ramp up.
