Next up on our Washington Capitals report cards is Clay Stevenson. He suited up in one game this season which turned out to be his NHL debut. We'll also look at how he did with the Hershey Bears.
Stevenson's start came in the regular season finale against the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on April 17. The Caps would go on to lose 5-2. Stevenson allowed five goals.
Those five goals included two to Bryan Rust, one to Sidney Crosby, a shorthanded one to Danton Heinen. Philip Tomasino rounded out the scoring.
In the regular seaosn with the Hershey Bears, Stevenson finished with an 18-8-4 record with two sutouts, a 2.94 goals against average and an .888 save percentage.
In the Calder Cup Playoffs he allowed four goals in his one game played. But last year he played in two games during their Calder Cup Playoff run.
Grade F: There wasn't really much to grade when it came to Hutner Shepard's and Clay Stevenson's lone starts. But it was bad. Granted the Caps didn't really have anythig to play for in those two games.
They also didn't have anything to play for in that season finale against the Pens either. Things were already clinched. Alex Ovechkin alrady broke the all time goals record.
It'll be much easier grading Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren as they all got more starts and it is a much larger sample size. But we figured we'd try our best and cover everybody.
If we're looking at Hershey's numbers Stevenson certainly earned an A with the Hershey Bears. Their season sadly came to an unfortunate end so there won't be a three peat of the Calder Cup in Chocolatetown this summer.
Either way the Caps have good goaltending depth in their current team and in the minors.
