The Washington Capitals returned to practice on Monday morning at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. They take on the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. Two players were marked absent at the skate, Dylan Strome and Ethen Frank due to illness.
Spencer Carbery hopeful it's just minor
When Spencer Carbery spoke to reporters following practice he said that he hopes it's a minor thing and that they'll be good to go tomorrow night against the Red Wings.
"Hopefully, it's just a 24, 48 hour thing... we'll have to see how they progress."Spencer Carbery
Strome has suited up in all 67 games for the Caps this season and is the team's leading scorer with 65 points (21 goals and 44 assists). He also has three goals in his last four games and scored the opening goal against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
The 28 year old center is just two points away of tying his previous single season career high of 67 points (27 goals and 40 assists) that was set last season in 82 games. He is also on pace to record the first 80 point season by a Caps player outside of Alex Ovechkin since Evgeny Kuznetsov posted 83 points in 79 games during the 2017-18 season with 27 goals and 56 assists.
Since the trade deadline acquistion of Anthony Beauvillier, Ethen Frank has not seen time in the Caps main lineup. The 27 year old winger recorded seven points with four goals and three assists in his first 22 NHL games this season.
The Red Wings will be hungry for a win tomorrow night as they sit two points behind the New York Rangers for the final wild card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. While Detroit holds one game in hand on the Rangers, they have dropped seven of their last 10 games.
Now that the trade deadline is over, the Caps can technically make a recall from the AHL's Hershey Bears if needed. Roster limits are no longer in effect after the deadline. NHL teams, however, are limited to four non emergency recalls between now and the end of the season.
