Five Players the Capitals May Be Forced to Trade in Blockbuster

If the Washington Capitals are to add an elite playmsker to their roster, they will have to give up a valuable NHL forward or two to make a Blockbuster trade work.

McMichael has had a slow but steady ascent to the Capitals top six forwards. He had a breakout year in 2024-25 playing mostly on a line with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Tom Wilson, a line that no one liked playing against. McMichael has speed, a great shot, and plays well on the penalty kill. His name has been mentioned as the most likely trade candidate if the Caps have to give up an NHLer. While Michael saw a drop in production in 2025-26, injuries to other players played a role. MCMichael is only 25 and is a restricted free agent this summer and is due a sizeable raise. The Caps have the cap space to resign him longterm, but this summer he may be more valuable to them as a trade piece.
