There are more than a few names in the NHL coaching carosuel that have ties to the Washington Capitals. A former head coach and a couple of fan favorite players from Washington's past have shown they have what it takes to coach in the NHL.

Craig Berube

The Chief himself, who went from Capitals enforcer and fan favorite to Stanley Cup winning coach in 2019 with St. Louis, was fired as Toronto's head coach just after the season. Berube was an undrafted free agent signed by Philly in 1986. He was not fleet of foot nor was a point producer. What Berube did well was protect his teammates. He played 1054 games for Calgary, the Islanders, Philadelphia, Washington, and Toronto.

Chief went into coaching after his career and worked his way up the assistant ranks until he was hired as head coach for the Flyers in 2013-14. Two years later, he was hired as bench boss in St. Louis and led the Blues to the Stanley Cup in 2019. After being fired from the Blues job, he landed in Toronto. He was fired after the Maple Leafs missed the playoffs this season.

Edmonton, Los Angeles, and New Jersey could be a fit.
