I have been kind of in awe of Jeff Halpern ever since he made the Caps roster after signing as a free agent after college in 1999. The hometown kid from Bethesda, who played for the Little Caps, then played his college hockey at Princeton. Not only was Halpern good, he would end up wearing the "C" before moving on to play in Dallas, Arizona, Tampa, Montreal, and the Rangers.

Halpern has been an assistant coach in Tampa since 2018 and has overseen the best powerplay unit in the league. Tampa won two consecutive Stanley Cups. in 2020 and 2021. Halpern has interviewed for head coaching jobs before, but this time seems like it coul dbe the year. Edmonton and Los Angeles would be wise to give him a long hard look since Halpern's name has come up for the coaching vacancy in Toronto.
