The Washington Capitals will have to address these a number of things this summer via trade or free agency if they want to make a run at the Stanley Cup in 2026-27.

With the Capitals offseason beginning early, the front office has to get the offseason right if they want to get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They are loaded with draft picks, salary cap space, and prospects that can help them level up. Here are four thigns they need to take care of if they want to get back into contention.

A Top Six Forward

This week, I am writing a series on players rumored to be on the trading block and which ones the Caps may pursue. You can read about Jason Robertson here. The Capitals are in desperate need of a pass-first center who can get the puck their goal scorers. Dylan Strome and Pierre-Luc Dubois are good centers and play their roles well. But a winger that creates space and brings a new element to the offense would help a well. Adding a player that can supercharge the power play and push the offense to the next level is vital if the Caps want to win the Stanley Cup before Ovi retires.
