Next up and last but simply not least as we put a bow in grading the first round we grade the performance of Washington Capitals goalie Logan Thompson.
Thompson started all five games despite leaving Game 3 with an injury. He performed well each game. In the regular season he went 31-6-6 with a 2.49 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
In the playoffs his goals against average is at 2.23 and his save percentage is at .923. He faced 143 shots in round one and stopped 132 of them. Game 1 saw him make 33 saves.
In Game 2 Thompson had 25 saves. In Game 3's defeat he had 30 saves. LT made 16 stops in Game 4 and would finish the series with 28 saves in Game 5.
Thompson would say after Game 5, "I felt good today. I think the team was doing a good job of letting me see it. There wasn't many pucks that I didn't see tonight, so credit to the group in front of me for making my life a little easier."
"It's huge. No game in this league is ever easy. It's even harder once you get to the playoffs. Honestly, I think either one of those games could have gone either way. The series could've been different. You tip your hat to them. That's a well coached team. A lot of potential over there. "Logan Thompson
Dylan Strome would add this on LT, "He's a rock. He kind of did what he did all year. We feel really confident with him back there. You see their goal tonight, it's like a deflection midway up the guys chest behind his glove, so it's one of those just a lucky, lucky bounce to go in for them.
"I thought he was awesome all series, including when I ran him over. He bounced back pretty good from that, so I'm very thankful for that that he was able to bounce back. But he was great. I thought what he did all year. He kept us in it, made the big saves when we needed it."
Final Grade A: Logan Thompson did exactly what he had to do in net to get the Capitals past the first round and you can't ask for much more except that he does it again in round two against the Carolina Hurricanes.
