Grading Washington Capitals offense against New Jersey Devils

Washington Capitals once again came out on top, this time in Newark on Saturday night

The Washington Capitals earned a 6-5 win on Saturday night at New Jersey which extended their road winning streak to seven games tying the franchise record for longest road winning streak since the 2022-23 season from Dec. to Jan.

The offense was simply on fire icluding the power play and the Caps have scored 13 power play goals on 29 opportunities over their last 11 games dating back to Nov. 9, including at least one power play goal in eight of their last nine games. With the win, Washington improved to 4-1-0 in the second game of back to backs this season.

The Capitals have scored five or more goals in 12 of their 24 games this season and are averaging an NHL best 4.21 goals per game. In 2023-24, Washington scored five or more goals in 10 of their 82 games.

Washington is 16-4-3 in their last 23 games against the Devils dating back to the 2020-21 season. In additon, D.C. has a record of 10-1-0 in their last 11 games at Prudential Center. Washington is not only first place with the 17-6-1 record entering Sunday's slate of play in the Metropolitan Division but they have also dominated in the league.

Per NHL Public Relations, the Capitals won 10 games in a calender month with a 10-4-1 mark and 21 points for the first time since Dec. 2022 when they went 11-2-2 with 24 points. Washington is the only team this season to win 10 games in a single month.

Andrew Mangiapane scored his sixth goal of the season to put the Caps up early in the contest marking his second goal in his last three games. Hendrix Lapierre had the primary assist on the game opening goal which marked his 20th career apple. Lapierre has recorded four assists in his last five games dating back to Nov. 23 in a home loss to the Devils.

After the Devils took a brief lead it was Connor McMichael who tied it with his 14th goal of the season and his third straight game with a goal against the Devils. He's got five points in four games against the Devils this season. Jakob Chychrun and Rasmus Sandin would add power play goals and McMichael's was a PPG too. In the third Taylor Raddysh and Pierre-Luc Dubois put it away.

Grade A+: The Caps scored a touchdown in New Jersey and you can't ask for much more than that to slide into first place over a bitter foe.
