Groundwork begins on brand new Capital One Arena transformation

On Thursday in a press conference in D.C., Washington Capitals owner and Monumental Sports Network CEO Ted Leonsis announced a new Capital One Arena and more details

The Washington Capitals along with the NBA's Washington Wizards will soon call a new Capital One Arena home. As early as three years with a lot of groundwork to do between now and then the plan is for it all to be done in time for the 2027-28 NHL and NBA seasons.

Ted Leonsis would say in a press release:

"The arena will be a marvel of modern design and technology, the intersection of style and comfort in a futuristic and first class fan experience from street to seat. In this greatest city in the world with its extraordinary and historic monuments, we believe this building will be a monument but built on momentum - something bold and bright for now and the future. "

D.C. City Mayor Muriel Bowser would add:

"We know what our sports teams mean to DC, and we're proud to be partnering with Ted Leonsis and Monumental Sports to deliver a once in a generation investment in the future of our city. It's a catalytic investment that's good for our Downtown, our city, as well as the teams, fans, and entire region. Thank you to the neighbors, business owners, advocates, and everyone else who stayed in the fight with us."

Per the release, the Capitals' speace will feature "ergonomically designed lockers with itegrated drying systems. personalized storage for gear, dressing areas, lounge spaces, and new weight and functional training areas. Their recovery facilities will include dedicated cold tubs, hot tubs, and compression therapy areas designed specifically for the recovery needs of hockey players. Equipment and triage optimization will provide on site skate sharpening and repair stations for immediate and precise gear adjustments, ensuring players are always game ready."

Both the Capitals and the Wizards will have dedicated new "hype zones" that will promise to "bring players to the court ready for actoin and showcase an excited team entering the ice."

Capital One Arena also talked more about the creation of The Vault which marks the landmark first step in Capital One Arena's transformation process where each Vault Suite will be "accessed by a private lobby with a dedicated elevator off the main concourse and features seating for up to 20 including lounge style seating areas" close to the court and ice it appears.

Either way it's an exciting time to be a DC sports fan with this type of announcement. It will pave the way for future DC sports fans to enjoy games for generations to come.
