It is the second straight night the team is playing at 5:00 and the Caps look to sweep the weekend back to back. The Caps are coming off a 7-2 win to protect home ice which went on to improve their record to 8-2-0 to tie the franchise record for most wins through the first 10 games of the season. The Caps are 6-1-0 on home ice and have outscored the oppostion 34-20 at Capital One Arena.

Washington's six game home winning streak marks the first time they have won six consecutive games at home since 2018 which was a seven game streak that included the NHL Stadium Series game that was played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.

The Caps have scored five or more goals in five of their 10 games to begin the season. 13 different skaters have scored a goal while three have at least five goals. Connor McMichael leads the pack with seven. Tom Wilson and Alex Ovechkin each have six.

Ovi would go on to have a three point night for the second game in a row. He became the fourth player age 39 or older to post consecutive three point outings. The others were Jean Ratelle, Gordie Howe and Tim Horton per NHL Stats.

The Caps also blocked a season high 30 shots which marked just the seventh time that the Caps have blocked 30 or more shots in a single game since the NHL began tracking in 2005-06.

Logan Thompson became the second Capitals goalie to win each of his first five games, following the success of Tomas Vokoun in 2011-12.
