Eller was reacquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 12 for Washington's third round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fifth rounder originally from the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2025 NHL Draft. Eller spent seven seasons with the Caps from 2016-2023, recording 208 points in 488 games with 87 goals and 121 assists.

The Capitals traded Eller to Colorado for a second round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft on March 1, 2023. he Caps traded that second rounder to the Calgary Flames for Andrew Mangiapane on June 27.
