This game will mark the beginning of Washington's 15th Mentors' Trip as players' and staff members' mentors will also be in attendance on Wednesday at Amalie Arena when the Capitals take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Per the Caps, since 2008, Washington has posted an 18-9-0 record with their mentors in attendance. The Caps split two games of their Mentors' trip last season falling to Florida 4-2 on Feb. 8 followed by a 3-0 shutout of the Boston Bruins on Feb. 10 in front of a National TV audience. The Caps last brought their mentors to Tampa Bay on Dec. 14, 2019 when they scored four goals in the third period to come out on top in a 5-2 win.

There will be a large contingent of fathers, fathers-in-law and other mentors along the journey down to Florida. After the two step is completed in Tampa the Caps return home. For the first time ever this season the Caps enter the game in peril having lost two games in a row, both on home ice.

It won't be easy as they'll be facing a Florida Panthers team that is desprate themselves having lost three straight games. The Caps managed to score just three goals in the two game losing streak which saw the Caps without their captain as he's dealing with a left fibula injury that's sidelining him from 4-6 weeks.

The betting odds, per Caesars Sportsbook, have the Capitals as 1.5 goal underdogs entering Monday night's game. The Caps have +158 moneyline odds while the Panthers are favored to win at -190. The game is set at an over/under of 6.0 goals. Odds may change before the drop of the puck.
